Description
Tonight's speaker is Fiona Mc Nab a UCL Researcher. She will be speaking about Distraction, Ageing and Memory Training.
Fiona McNab became interested in memory while working as postdoc at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. Using brain scanning techniques she studied the brain’s ability to block out distraction when performing memory tasks (“the spam filter of the brain”!) and also how the brain changes after a sustained period of memory training.
She now has an “Career Development Fellowship” from the Wellcome Trust, and works at UCL conducting studies of distraction, brain training and ageing.
This meeting with an interesting subject is suitable for Rotarians and Non-Rotarians.

Description
The Charing Cross hotel can truly claim to be at the very centre of London: the Eleanor Cross outside is the point from which all road distances to the capital are measured. But it was the railways, rather than the motor car, that brought the first guests here. Completed in 1865, this magnificent hotel near The Strand and Trafalgar Square was built at the height of the Victorian railway boom. The wealth and confidence of the era is reflected in the hotel’s sheer scale and opulence; truly this was the Golden Age of travel.
